Spencer, Ia (KICD) – The second flight for day one wrapped up Thursday evening at the Spencer Golf and Country Club in the 102nd Northwest Amateur.
Matt Conlan, the Tournament Director broke down some of the highlights of the first 18 holes.
Current Grand View Viking and Ankeny native Jack Winkel hit a 68, good for 4 below Par which puts him at a tie for 4th with Dennis Bull of Norwalk, Axton Miller of Arthur, and Eddie Doyle of Fort Dodge. Winkel talked about what was going well in a strong start for him.
Two-time Champion and Northwest Am regular Curtis Holck finds himself in 3rd place with a 5 below Par. Consistent play had Holck at a 7 below Par before bogeying hole 17 and 18.
I asked Holck what keeps him coming back to Spencer for the Northwest Am.
Action fires back up bright and early on Friday Morning for the second round of 18 as the players try to make the cut.
