Spencer, Ia (KICD) – Dennis Bull had just lofted his ball from the Hole 18 sand trap on to the Green at the Spencer Golf and Country Club as the 102nd Northwest Amateur winded down. The ball hit the green and scooted well past the hole, setting Bull up for a very challenging fourth shot for par. Bull needed that Par to seal up his first ever Northwest Amateur Championship, after finishing as runner-up various years before.

The Green was surrounded by Golf Carts as spectators wanted to catch what could be the winning put after 72 holes of play the last 4 days of the 2024 Northwest Amateur.

Everything fell silent as Dennis Bull lined up his put. The 42-year-old from Norwalk, Iowa drew his club back, then smoothly brought it forward, sending his ball rolling toward the hole.

The ball fell through, giving Bull the Par, and with it keeping his score at -13, a stroke under Spirit Lake’s Mason Weeks in second. Bull talked about his mindset during the winning put.

PGA Professional at the Spencer Golf and Country Club Adam Coates enjoyed the competition.

The final round of play was a perfect storm of competition, which of course, involved avoiding any storms.

That is the Director of the 102nd Northwest Amatuer Tournament Matt Conlon. Coates was happy to get the Tournament in comfortably with minimal interference from the elements.

The Group that Dennis Bull was playing in was very competitive. Along with Bull was Trent Peterson, the former champ who placed 3rd with 11 below Par, Tournament Regular Logan Schweinefus, who was 4th with 9 below Par, and another former champ in Joshua Manske, who took 14th with a 6 below Par. Conlon talked about the group feeding off each other on the final day.

Dennis Bull is relieved to finally hold the Trophy.

Bull talked about what it took to claim the title.

A four-day, 72-hole Tournament leads to some late nights and early mornings for the Grounds Crew, Coates explains.

Along with a busy grounds crew, Conlon credited many for a great edition of the Northwest Amateur.
