Spencer, IA (KICD)– Conversations became a bit tense near the end of the final Eggs and Issues legislative forum on Saturday when local lawmakers responded to claims that they have broken the education system.
Senator Dave Rowley was the first to address the matter saying by simply saying he disagreed with the accusation.
Representative John Wills appeared to take great offense to the comments noting the success of Iowa schools has increased since suffering major cuts more than a decade ago.
Senator Lynn Evans followed suit by saying there are some good things happening in education and that not everything is doom and gloom.
Representative Megan Jones responded to one specific comment that the lawmakers are “molesters” of the education system noting that goes against what she would hope children are learning.
Saturday’s final session comes after the legislature cleared the first funnel deadline with work now focused on narrowing the amount of legislation making it to the House and Senate floors by the end of this month.
