Spencer IA, (Northwest Iowa Now) The Spencer city council has decided to put a bond issue for renovations at the Aquatic Center and construction of a new campground on hold.
A third project – a splashpad – will proceed without a bond issue; engineering on all three projects, however,
will continue.
Councilman Tom Nelson still senses support for the concept.
Councilman Brian Balk agrees and says compiling data now but voting in a year gives the public a better chance to understand the issue.
The engineering fees are being paid from hotel motel tax funds now but would be reimbursed from bond proceeds if the referendum passes.
The Splash Pad is not dependent on bond revenue. Bolton and Menck estimates bids for the splashpad could go out in spring with construction to begin in the fall of 2025.
