Orleans, IA (KICD) — The Spirit Lake Protective Association has made upgrading Templer Park – on the Southwest corner of the lake – a priority. President John Smeltzer says the lodge has been gone for decades, but the area remains popular for sportsmen and tourists.

Smeltzer says the historic arch – which is 100 years old this year – will be reconstructed as a monument to the historic site.

Dickinson County Museum Director Mary Dreier says they’ve been looking for the brass plaque that used to be on the arch – and it showed up just a few weeks ago.

The plaque will be displayed at the museum in Spirit Lake, but a replica will be made for the arch.
