Spencer, IA (KICD)– The new year is here which likely has many people looking to improve themselves and in some cases that begins with getting in shape.

Tim Birkey is a certified strength and conditioning coach for Spencer Hospital’s Athletic Enhancement program. He says someone new to fitness should first see their physician for a full physical and then make sure to start slow.

Once a routine is established, Birkey says working out will start to show some benefits to everyday life.

It is also important to try different types of exercises to have the best results.

Spencer Hospital’s Athletic Enhancement program also offers trainer services to help with the accountability aspect. Additional information can be found on the hospital website.
