Storm Lake, IA (KICD)– It appears as though Buena Vista County is going back to the drawing board when it comes to a potential change in office areas for county offices following a discussion on Tuesday.

The discussion to look into buying what is known as the former Colorize building near the Buena Vista County Courthouse in Storm Lake began last year when election officials asked about finding an alternative that would make storing and setting up equipment not only easier, but safer. That led to the county eventually buying the building only to have it sit there with no real decisions being made according to Building and Ground Superintendent Joe Keller.

An idea was floated during the discussion of moving the election equipment to the separate building for storage and testing, but Elections Deputy Karla Ahrendsen noted that would not work when it comes to being able to day-to-day tasks, but the current set-up is also tough.

After talking through potential options for the building for better of a half hour, Supervisor Paul Mertens threw out a bit of an ultimatum.

The board decided to take action on that thought and voted to sell the Colorize building and coming up with a new alternative.
