Spirit Lake, IA (KICD)– The Spirit Lake School Board this week adopted a new policy that would help with response to potential opioid overdose on campus.
District Nurse Katy Stokke and Nurse Assistant Beth Krummen have been working on a new policy that would allow Narcan, an opioid reversal agent, to be available on school grounds in the event of an overdose situation whether it be on purpose or accidental.
There was also some discussion on who would be trained to properly administer the Narcan in an emergency situation.
The program is offered free of charge through grant funding, but Stokke and Krummen have already begun looking at pricing for additional doses in the event that funding is no longer available when the available Narcan needs to be replaced either because of use or expiration.
