Spirit Lake, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) –A local business proprietor was indicted in Louisiana. According to a press release from the Spirit Lake Police Department, on May 24th the Spirit Lake Police Department was made aware of an outstanding arrest warrant for Chio Van Leo, age unknown, who is the owner of Asia Place Restaurant in Spirit Lake.

Leo was arrested by officers on an outstanding warrant form Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana and held in the Dickinson County jail and then transported to Louisiana.

On September 27th, 2024, the Spirit Lake Police Department was again a contacted by Calcasieu Parish with an update about the case. Chio Van Leo was formally indicted on two counts of aggravated rape and four counts of molestation of a juvenile, these charges date back to a case from 1995.

Due to the amount of time that has passed prior to Leo’s arrest, and the nature of the offense is alleged, the prosecutor from the office of Louisiana requested the Spirit Lkae Police Department make the community aware of the case.
