Sheldon, IA (KICD)– Online court documents are providing more insight into the alleged murder of a Sheldon woman by her son.

41 year old Nathaniel Kassel was apparently living with his mother – 62 year old Jody Duskin – at 604 4th Avenue in Sheldon. She was found dead by another family member last Thursday afternoon.

Authorities say Kassel sent a text to relatives a day earlier saying he was going to kill her. He was apprehended around noon Friday in Flandreau, South Dakota. Media there report the Flandreau Santee Sioux Police Chief spotted a vehicle matching the description provided by the Iowa DCI parked at the Royal River Casino and called for backup. Kassel was taken into custody outside of a cannabis dispensary nearby.

A judge has granted the State of Iowa’s request for extradition and Kassel is now incarcerated at the O’Brien County Jail in Primghar. A preliminary hearing in the case has been scheduled for April 7th.
