Spencer, IA (KICD)– Quick work for firefighters kept a basement fire on the west side of Spencer from becoming a bigger situation on Wednesday afternoon.

The Spencer Fire Department was called to the 600 block of West 7th Street around three o’clock where smoke could be seen coming from the doors and windows of the residence.

Crews were able to make entry and spent the next hour and a half putting out the flames and keeping the fire from extending further into the home.

Firefighters were assisted at the scene by the Spencer Police Department, Spencer Hospital and Spencer Municipal Utilities. There has been no word on a possible cause.
