Spirit Lake, IA (KICD)– The Dickinson County Board of Supervisors had a lengthy discussion with Summit Carbon Solutions last week on how the company intends to handle integrity a carbon dioxide pipeline should it come through the local area.

Brent Nece is a Project Manager for the Ames based company. He says Summit Carbon is constantly watching the welds along the long the line and taking the surrounding environment into account.

Nece says part of the plan involves having known risks but in areas that are consistently being monitored and improved as needed.

Tuesday’s conversation included concerns from the public ranging from what happens in the case of a leak to how it could affect tourism in the Iowa Great Lakes. Nece added that cabon pipelines are essential in order for ethanol plants to remain viable which would have a direct impact on corn growers relying on the ethanol market.
