Spencer, IA (KICD)– Spencer Mock Trial Program has once again completed a successful year with the high school students placing in the top twelve in the state.

Clay County Attorney Travis Johnson is one of the coaches for the program and he credits the ongoing success to the hard work put in by the students.

Johnson says the work the students go through is very similar to what he does in getting ready for a trial with a civil case being presented one and a criminal case the next.

All programs across the state are given the same case throughout the year, but everyone has to be ready to present both sides.

Johnson adds that students do not have to be interested in actually pursuing a law career to participate and can take what they learn into any number of future paths.

To further show how hard Spencer’s students work to prepare for competition not one but TWO of their attorneys received All-State Attorney awards which is a first for Johnson in his ten years coaching.
