Spencer IA, Northwestiowanow.com) — During Spencer Hospital’s Board of Trustees meeting earlier this month there was a discussion about the number of surgeries being performed at the hospital being down.

Spencer Hospital President Brenda Tiefenthaler says one reason for the number of surgeries being lower is insurance companies are requiring patients to do more before procedures.

Tiefenthaler explains that nationwide surgeries are down post COVID.

Tiefenthaler expects the trend of outpatient care to continue to grow.

Tiefenthaler says their volume for surgery is down 6% from the historical average.
