Sheldon, IA (NorthwestIowaNow.com) — Seargent Eric Meinecke is now Chief Meinecke of the Sheldon Police Department.
The resolution passed at the Sheldon city council meeting Wednesday, November 6. Mayor Greg Geels had appointed Meinecke as interim police chief after the resignation of Scott Burtch in July. When the search began to find a permanent Chief, Geels insisted it be a group decision with involvement of the entire city council, rather than just an appointment by the mayor. Several candidates were interviewed by Mayor Geels, City Manager Sam Kooiker and City Clerk Angie Beckman, but in the end, they found the best choice to be the interim chief. Meinecke will be sworn in on November 11.
