Hospers, IA (KICD)– A Sheldon man was hurt in a Thursday afternoon fire near Hospers that required work from multiple local agencies.

The initial call came in around three o’clock for a large number of hay bales burning at a farm site west of town and when initial units from the Hospers Fire Department arrived the size of blaze led to assistance being called in from Orange City, Alton, Boyden and Granville.

Original reports indicated a propane tank had exploded at the site, but that information has since been corrected to say the tank was venting gas with the venting product burning.

35-year-old Eduardo Sanchez-Hidalgo was taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

A machine shed containing approximately 80 hay bales, a truck and some construction related equipment are being reported as lost in the fire which is believed to have ignited off of sparks created by some nearby concrete workers.
