Garage Fire in Aurelia

Firefighters in Aurelia spent Christmas morning fighting a garage fire in the 100 block of Willow Street. The Aurelia Fire Department received the call around 10:15 a.m., December 25th, and were able to bring the fire under control.

Changes to the state’s mental health system are coming in 2025. According to the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (Iowa HHS), they have chosen Iowa Primary Care Association to act as a statewide Administrative Serve Organization for the redesigned Behavioral Health System.

Iowa Recovery Update

The latest update from FEMA shows they have provided more than $70 million in Individual Assistance to Iowa residents who suffered serious damage from this year’s flooding, severe storms and tornadoes. More than 7,000 households have been approved. In addition, FEMA National Flood Insurance Program has paid over $27 million in claims for Iowa policyholders. This money helps survivors with anything not covered by their insurance.

Sheldon Man gets 8th Public Intox Charge This Year

A Sheldon man has been arrested for this 8th public intoxication charge of the year, according to the Sheldon newspaper. On December 11 41-year-old Rolando Rodolfo Chavez-Lopez was allegedly passed out in a hallway in an apartment building in Sheldon, and after Sheldon police responded to report, they found Chavez-Lopez lying next to a bottle of vodka and had the odor of alcoholic and slurred speech.
