Spirit Lake Man Winner in Photography Contest

A Spirit Lake man is one of the winners in the Keep Iowa Beautiful 15th Annual Photography Contest. In the Iowa Water Category, William Beardsley of Spirit Lake placed 1st Place for his picture in the “Floating Dock” category, which was also winner in the Public Favorite category, William was also Honorable Mention: in the “Window to Serenity,” Category.

Conditions Point to Above-Normal Snow in February

National Weather Service meteorologist Andrew Ansorge says things are setting up for a big snow dump. “There’s a lot of moisture overrunning a frontal zone well to the south of the state and as the moisture moves up and over Iowa it’s encountering the cold air and it’ll be falling out of snow so that’s where we’re going to see a widespread snowfall, and the highest snowfall amounts for this storm will be across southern Iowa and northern Missouri where snow amounts of six to eight maybe even nine inches across parts of northern Missouri will be possible,” Ansorge says.

First Significant Snowfall Could Occur Today

A narrow band is expected to develop this morning, building east along interstate i-90 through this morning. Snow may become moderate at times and could drop visibility quickly this evening in some areas.
