Manning, IA (KICD) — The Iowa Pork Producers has awarded the annual Best Tenderloin award to “Cliff’s Place” in Manning. Jim Waterbury has been working in the kitchen since he was 13 in 1976 and took over the restaurant with his brother John when their father passed away in 2008.
Their mother Vicki – he says – still puts in twelve to fourteen hours a day.
The runner-up is The Roadhouse in Orange City, which Chef Aaron Lenz opened during covid.
Lenz says his grandmother taught him to cook, and then he tweaked his skills at the Culinary Institute in New York.
This is the 21st year of the Best Tenderloin Contest. It’s announced every year to coincide with National Pork Month.
