Des Moines, Ia (KICD) – The KICD area had 11 Boys Wrestlers fight their way to the podium last week at the Iowa High School athletic union Boys State Wrestling Tournament.
Emmetsburg put 5 total wrestlers in the top eight, one of them being Ryan Brennn who placed 5th at 145. Brennan felt good about his tournament after a slow start.
The extra day and 8 more wrestlers per bracket meant a longer grind for wrestlers in the State Tournament, but Emmetbsurg coach Mark Klaus said the E-Hawks wrestling in the Dual Tournament last year had them better prepared for this year’s extra day.
Emmetsburg’s Jace Nelson-Brown placed 2nd at 170, Cade Shirk was 7th at 182, Ben Saxton placed 6th at 195, and Gage Jorgenson wasw 8th at 285.
GTRA’s Jordan Saul found 8th place in the 170 lb bracket. After a tough second day, Saul had to focus in order to place.
Titan Wrestling Coach Alex Helmich was impressed by the way Saul finished the season.
Okoboji/HMS’s Noh Strantz had to wrestle 7 matches in 4 days in his 7th Place finish at 160. Strantz talked about his routine to get ready in between matches.
Okoboji/HMS’ Wrestling coach Nathan Dau talked about how practicing with a coach helped Strantz win some tough matches.
Sheldon South O’Brien would place Coy De Boer 8th at 152 and Jarrett Roos 3rd at 182.
Spencer’s Logan Huckfelt placed 6th at 285 after wrestling 220 the first 3 years of his high school career
Spencer Coach Adam Gress looked back on Huckfelt’s career.
Spirit Lake Park’s Jack Wajda finished 6th in 160.
