Emmetsburg, Ia (KICD) – The District Wrestling Championships for the IHSAA were in action on Saturday.
There were over 30 Wrestlers who punched their ticket to the State Tournament from the KICD area.
In Class 1A, Alta-Aurelia is sending Eli Rieb at 106, Jaxson Page at 113, Aden Rieb at 120, and Angel Barajas at 285.
West Bend-Mallard is sending two Wrestlers to Des Moines. Logan Grimm will go at 175, Mason Knapp is a Qualifier as a District Champ at 113, and he is looking forward to competing toward a podium finish.
GTRA’s Caleb Swedin is into the State Tournament after winning the district title at 126. Swedin gets in to a lot of scrambles, something he says he is very comfortable with.
GTRA is also sending Isaiah Malm at 144.
Kaben Morrow of Sioux Central will enter the State Tournament at 126.
MMCRU sends Gage Johnson at 138.
Sibley-Ocheyedan had a really good District Meet. They will have Dawson Beyer advancing at 144, Aidan Beyer at 150, Easton Beyer at 157, Dominic Marco at 215, and Michael Block at 285. Block had a big challenge in the 285 Championship going up against Emmetsburg’s Gage Jorgenson, a match that went to overtime.
North Union’s Gavyn Morphew advances at 144 and Pocahontas Area’s loan qualifier is William Lawson at 150.
Emmetsburg will be bringing another crowd to the Tournament. Justin Wirtz advances at 165, Ryan Wirtz at 190, Nick Saxton at 215, Gage Jorgenson at 285, and Jace Nelson-Brown at 175. Nelson-Brown was a State Runner-Up last season and is hoping for another high finish.
In Class 2A, Estherville Lincoln Central qualified Austin Hansen at 113, Layton Yager at 144, and Asher Molacek at 285. Okoboji/HMS qualified Tyce Hanson at 126. Sheldon/South O’Brien will bring a couple of Wrestlers to the State meet in Josh Hoffman and Jarrett Roos. Spirit Lake/Park brings Landon Wittrock to Des Moines at 138. Cherokee’s loan qualifier is Logan Allender at 175.
The Spencer Tigers bring another solid group to the Class 3A State Tournament. Connor Stickrod will wrestle 106, Easton Beehler at 113, Gavin Doebel at 138, Wyatt Heying will compete at 144, Levi Johnson at 150, and Kade Johnson qualifies at 157.
David Santos is Storm Lake’s Qualifier at 165.
