Des Moines, Ia (KICD) – The Iowa High School Athletic Association and Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union State Track and Field Championships were in action Thursday through Saturday, and there were 4 individual State Title’s from KICD area competitors over those 3 days.

The first State Title came from Sibley-Ocheyedan’s Madison Brouwer in the 2A 800m Run. She executed the half mile to perfection, and broke down for KICD her strategy for one of the more grueling races in the Sport.

Sioux Central’s Girls Shuttle Hurdle Relay team came away with the 2A State Title, also setting the 2A State Meet Record. They were closely contested by a Ridgview team that took second, a team that has been a familiar opponent for the Rebels.

Spencer’s Jerra Merchant would set a 3A State Meet Record in the 100m Hurdles in Prelims, and then beat that same record in the Finals when she took home the Gold. It was a succesful weekend all togehter for Merchant, who also claimed a silver in the 400m Hurdles. Merchant said it was a great way to cap off her high school career.

Madison Brouwer would pick up her second State Title of the Weekend in the 1500m Run. Brouwer was challenged by Mid-Prairie’s Danielle Hostetler, a regular in State Cross Country and Track Distance Events. Brouwer talked about how Hostetler helped push her to a State Championship.

In the Final Boys Team Standings, Okoboji placed 7th in 2A, Emmetsburg was 30th in 2A, Sioux Central placed 31st in 2A, Estherville Lincoln Central took 34th in 2A, Sibley-Ocheyedan finished 52nd in 2A, Spirit Lake was 13th in 3A, and Spencer took 27th in 3A.

In the Final Girls Team Standings, GTRA waas 17th in 1A, West Bend-Mallard took 46th in 1A, Harris-Lake Park was 50th in 1A, Sibley-Ocheyedan took 7th in 2A, Estheville Lincoln Central would finish 10th in 2A, Sioux Central was 14th in 2A, Okoboji took 18th in 2A, Emmetsburg was 32nd in 2A, Spencer placed 14th in 3A, and Spirit Lake placed 19th in 3A.
