Spirit Lake, Ia (KICD) – Spirit Lake hosted their Cross Country Invitational on Tuesday at Brooks Golf Club in Spirit Lake.

In the Girls race, Peyton Morey would come away with the Individual win with a time of 21:06.2. The Tigers put 3 runners in the top 15 and would place 3rd with 58 points. Coach Drew Schiltz will be looking for the Tigers to get a few more of their top 5 inside MOC-Floyd Valley’s.

Peyton Morey will be looking to improve the middle part of her race.

MOC-Floyd Valley took 1st, placing all 5 scorers in the top 10 for an impressive score of 34. Cherokee was 2nd with 50, Storm Lake came in 4th with 103, and Pocahontas Area was 5th with 136. Pocahontas Coach Robert Maske was happy with the Girls race despite missing a few runners.

Pocahontas did not have enough Boys Runners to record a team score.

Spirit Lake’s Brandon Hughes won the Boys race with a time of 16:56.56. Spencer’s Van Munson came in 4th with a time of 17:42.41. Munson likes where he is at in the early season.

MOC-Floyd Valley took 1st as a team with 49 points, placing their top 5 all within the top 15. Spirit Lake was 2nd with 70, Storm Lake 3rd with 87, Spencer 4th with 88 winning the tiebreaker with Sheldon, Estherville Lincoln Central was 6th with Cherokee 7th.

Coach Schiltz talked about how the Tigers measure up with the pack.

Harris-Lake Park’s loan runner Landon Greve placed 31st with a time of 19:49.67. He is happy to get in the first meet of the season.

Greve’s coach Rebecca Matthiesen would like to see Greve work on his breathing over the next few practices.

The next big area meet will be at Okoboji on August 31st.
