Emmetsburg, IA (KICD) — Additional charges against the woman accused of injuring a five-year old bicyclist in a hit and run accident have been filed.
The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s department on Friday charged 22-year-old Laticia Whiting with O.W.I. first offense, and Serious Injury by Vehicle. She had previously been charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in serious injury, driving on the wrong side of the road, having an open container of alcohol in the car, and failure to prove financial liability.
Authorities believe Whiting struck a girl – later identified by a family member as Mackenzie Puterbaugh – on the evening of June 9th in Ruthven, and then drove to Spirit Lake where authorities identified her car and took her into custody.
Mackenzie’s aunt told KICD News the girl suffered a punctured lung and other injuries but was discharged from a Sioux Falls hospital the next Tuesday.
