Spencer, IA (KICD)– The state of mental health services in Iowa has been a topic of discussion for some time and continued to be one at Saturday’s first Eggs and Issues forum of 2023.
Representative Megan Jones of Sioux Rapids notes there is no silver bullet so-to-speak for solving this issue, but perhaps changing regulations with non-compete agreements is a start.
Senator Lynn Evans, a former school administrator, added to that comment saying that having multiple professionals take on a case can at times make the problem worse for patients.
Senator Dave Rowley of Spirit Lake says there are some efforts currently starting their journey through the legislature to help provide better services for those in need of care.
Representative John Wills of Spirit Lake adds the start to a possible solution for the mental health crisis, that he believes is at least partially a bureaucracy issue, is introducing a tele-medicine option.
There are two more Eggs and Issues forums scheduled for 2023: February 25th and March 4th, both in Council Chambers at Spencer City Hall.
