It is Election Day in Iowa and among the votes for local city council, mayor and school board seats are a handful of bond votes.

One of those votes is for Sheldon Schools where Superintendent Cory Myer cites four reasons why updates are needed in the district.

And as we have frequently reported: The Harris Lake Park school board decided to ask for a bond issue to construct a new elementary school after their architect said it would be cheaper than remodeling the old building; and would save money long-term as well.

Two local sheriffs say they barely pass inspection every year and are asking for funding for a new jail facilities. Pocahontas County Sheriff Steve Nelson says his is one of the very oldest in the state.

And Osceola County Sheriff Kevin Wollmuth says he’s out of room.

Both Nelson and Wollmuth say they’re proposing jails just big enough to meet their county’s needs with no extra frills.

Bond issues in Iowa require 60 percent approval for passage.
