Armstrong, IA (KICD) — The former City Clerk of Armstrong will NOT go on trial for misconduct in office. Connie Thackery was one of several employees and elected officials of the town facing prosecution from the state of Iowa following an extensive investigation.
Two other, former city clerks reached plea agreements previously. In March, Thackery entered an Alford Plea to one count of 2nd degree theft – a class D felony – in exchange for other charges being dropped. Under an Alford plea, the defendant maintains his or her innocence but admits a jury would likely find them guilty.
Thackery this week was ordered to pay 15 hundred dollars in restitution to the city and was placed on two years’ probation.
Former police Chief Craig Merril is scheduled to stand trial next month, and former Mayor Greg Buum is scheduled to stand trial in October – both in Clay County on changes of venue.
