Denison, Ia (KICD) – Interconference Baseball had Spencer lose to Denison-Schleswig 5-3.

Denison-Schleswig struck first in the bottom of the 3rd inning. Spencer would go for a big inning in the top of the 5th inning, scoring 3 runs, but that was answered in the bottom half of the 3rd with 3 runs from Denison-Schleswig.

The Monarchs would add 1 more run in the bottom of the 6th and the Tigers were unable to respond in the top of the 7th as Spencer takes their first loss of the season.

The win went to Denison-Schleswig’s Cody Schulte who threw 2 innings of shutout ball in relief of starter Camdyn Nemitz while striking out 3.

Isaac McCormick took the loss for Spencer in relief of Trenton Hallett, throwing 2 innings, allowing 3 hits, 3 runs with only 1 earned.

The top offensive performer for Spencer was George Lawson who had a couple of RBI on a hit in 3 at bats. Denison-Schleswig’s Ryan Slechta led the Monarchs offense with a hit, run, walk, and RBI in 2 at bats.

This is Spencer’s first loss on the year, they will host Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley on Thursday at 7:00 while Denison-Schleswig improves to 3-0 on the year and will host Atlantic on Thursday to open up Hawkeye 10 Conference play.
