Storm Lake, IA (KICD)– Charges have been filed in a hit and run incident that occurred in Storm Lake early Thursday morning.

The Storm Lake Police Department was originally called to the 500 block of Oates Street around 2:30 to a report of a 17-year-old having been hit by a car while on the sidewalk.

On arrival, the teenager was found to have injuries to his arms and legs and alleged the suspect vehicle had already fled the scene.

Further investigation revealed revealed tire tracks at the scene which led police to 27-year-old Gerson Barrionuavo- Corbonel as a possible driver. Officer later learned the 17-year-old had allegedly stolen some alcohol from a local business leading to Barrionuavo-Corbonel, who was working there at the time, getting into the suspect vehicle and following the teen before intentionally leaving the road hitting him.

Barrionuavo-Corbonel has been charged wtih assault with a dangerous weapon, leaving the scene of a personal injury accident , reckless driving and driving without a valid driver’s license.
