Cherokee, IA (KICD) The Cherokee Chronicle Times reports that a high school teacher charged with grooming a student for an adult relationship has been fired; and that an arraignment date has been set for June 3rd.
Following a closed session Wednesday night the school board issued a printed statement saying that the alleged actions by Joseph Vannatta “caused concern” within the community, and that they hope his dismissal can begin the “healing process.”
A police incident report obtained by the Chronicle Times says that a student claims Vannatta asked a number of sexually-charged questions over a nine month period; but does not allege any physical contact took place.
District Court Judge Shayne Mayor and Assistant Iowa Attorney General Ryan Baldridge signed off on the arraignment date Tuesday.
