Okoboji, IA (KICD)– The Okoboji City Council, after some back and forth conversations, as agreed to increase its contribution to water quality in the Iowa Great Lakes.

Discussions on the matter began after an updated agreement with the Dickinson County Water Quality Commission had the annual contribution increasing by ten thousand dollars in Okoboji while other communities did not see nearly as big of a jump. Councilman Dan Sanders made clear that he is not against paying for these efforts, but he would like to see more of a fair split between entities in the future.

Mayor Mary VanderWoude added she feels having such a large contribution is unfair because of the work Okoboji has done over the years help support better water quality.

After nearly a half hour of discussion, the council did vote three to two to go the updated three-year agreement but asked that the formula used to come up with the contributions from each entity be further evaluated and updated next time around.
