Spencer, IA (KICD)– The Spencer City Council awarded a contract on Monday for initial work on the North “Y” Gateway project.

Engineer Jim Thiesse told the council there was a good response from contractors interested in the project with some happy results as far as pricing.

Thiesse explained the difference between the two options presented for bid is in the type of reinforcement being used.

Finance Director Brian Weuve added that the City of Spencer has determined its funding source for this project and it will NOT affect property taxes.

Thiesse says a preliminary schedule for work to be completed has been for the contract assuming weather cooperates.

City officials have seen some preliminary plans for Kwik Star which has shown interest in building in this area which in its own way has served as a boost to get the North “Y” Gateway project moving.
