Spencer, IA (KICD)– The City of Spencer is exploring a possible combined home for the community’s emergency services to help with future growth.
Currently located several blocks apart on Grand Avenue, the Spencer Police and Fire Departments may have a solution to combining forces down the road if an opportunity for the city to purchase additional space south of the fire station is successful.
Fire Chief Jesse Coulson went before the Public Safety/Public Works Committee on Monday saying there are several items and areas that could be shared between the two departments making a future move make sense in his mind.
Chief Coulson adds that obtaining this additional property could help with parking issues that surface in the event of an emergency situation.
Police Chief Mark Warburton agrees but notes this not something that needs to be completed immediately from his department’s standpoint.
The public discussion comes as businessman and retired firefighter Randy Swanson explores selling the two pieces of property he owns on the corner of Grand Avenue and East Park Street.
