Spencer, IA (KICD)– The City of Spencer is pondering some potential changes for future uses of the Green Industrial Park on the east side of town.

The conversation went to the Long Term Planning Committee on Monday after city officials received a building request for for storage units on the land. The problem in that proposal is that type of structure is not currently allowed in that area, but City Manager Dan Gifford says relaxing those rules may make the lots more valuable.

Councilman Loren Reit added that if the rules were to be relaxed in the Green Industrial Park to allow storage units, some additional requirement would likely have to be put in place to keep the appeal.

All members of the Long Term Planning Committee requested some additional time to look through the proposal and past history before sending any recommendations to the full City Council.
