Spencer, IA (KICD)– Spencer officials provided another update on the continued progress toward eliminating the smell situation on the west side of town on Tuesday.

Planning Director Adam Severson says he has been told most of the equipment needed for phase two of the work to at least reduce the smell coming from the Symrise egg processing facility is now on site.

City Attorney Don Hemphill noted that the city continues to monitor the situation and will continue to take additional legal action if needed.

Complaints about the smell began surfacing late last year. Phase one of the fix involved Symrise constructing a dome-like structure over one of its tanks back in the Spring which took longer than expected after parts were delayed going through U.S. Customs.
