Storm Lake, IA (KICD)– The City of Storm Lake is putting higher measures in place when it comes to water conservation.

A proclamation was made by city officials to move into a level two within the Water Conservation Plan that is required by the State of Iowa.

The change comes in hopes of mitigating increased water demand after daily water use in the community exceeded four million gallons earlier this week.

Level two measures include the city minimizing the flushing of fire hydrants, streets and sewers. Watering will be reduced on city properties including the golf course and ball fields and plant watering will not take place during the warmest times of the day.

On the residential side, the people of Storm Lake are being asked to minimize vehicle washing. Lawn and plant watering will also not be allowed between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.
