Spencer, IA (KICD)– Each county in Iowa has a compensation commission with members appointed by that county’s elected officials. The commission then recommends the amount of raises – if any – to the board of supervisors. This year – Supervisor Allen Batschelet tells KICD News – the board approved an across-the-board recommendation.

Batchelet feels salaries for elected officials are right where they should be.

The supervisors can approve, deny, or lower the adjustements; but cannot give raises HIGHER than recomended, or single out one position. The raises take effect July 1st, which is the start of the county’s fiscal year.
