Spencer, IA (KICD) — The Clay County Board of Supervisors have approved contracts to bring some needed updates to the surveillance system in the jail.

Clay County Sheriff Chris Raveling and Jail Administrator Luke Christensen brought the request before Supervisors as their systems were over 10 years old and becoming outdated.

A quote from Accurate Controls for all of the work was initially accepted but Sheriff Raveling told Supervisors he had spoken with Alpha Wireless about cameras, and splitting the contract appeared to be cheaper.

Purchasing the computers to run the software from elsewhere would also save some money according to Raveling.

The computers that would be provided by Solutions and installed by Accurate Controls totaled just over $4,500 and were verified to be compatible with the software.

When all is said and done Sheriff Raveling says the total of splitting the work between three companies ends up costing less money for the County than if they went with Accurate Controls for all of the work.

The Supervisors were happy with the savings and approved contracts to Solutions for the computers, Accurate Controls for software and computer installation and Alpha Wireless for cameras.
