Cherokee, IA (KICD) — While agriculture was the focus on the only debate between the two candidates seeking to be the Republican nominee for Congress in the 4th district, two other issues crept in.

Incumbent Randy Feenstra says rural hospitals must be subsidized if necessary to provide critical, local, service.

Challenger Kevin Virgil says if government does get involved, it should be closer to home.

The two candidates had similar thoughts on the role of government encouraging home construction in rural areas.
Republicans will select their nominee in Tuesday’s primary.
