Sibley, IA (KICD) — Current Sibley-Ocheyeden Superintendent Jamie Craig now knows where his next job is. Craig announced his intentions to leave the district after four years, saying he wanted to return to Southern Iowa to be closer to aging family members.
The Cardinal School District headquarters in Eldon – Southeast of Ottumwa near the Missouri border – and had a certified enrollment of 574 students this year.
Craig was one of three finalists for the post along with Superintendent Gary Benda from the Starmont and West Central community schools, and Junior and Senior High Principal Steve Noble from the nearby Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont district. The Cardinal school board says they were impressed with Craig’s leadership in facility improvements, special ed, and revamping the salary schedule to retain employees.
As we previously reported, the current Sibley-Ocheyeden 7th through 12th grade principal Stan De Zeeuw was the school board’s pick to become superintendent July 1st after interviewing three finalists.
Last week they hired De Zeeuw’s replacement. Casey Hertz is currently an assistant middle school principal across the border in Worthington, and already lives in Sibley.
