Spirit Lake, IA (KICD) — The Dickinson County Board of Adjustment wrapped up a three-night public hearing on the Red Rock Wind Power Project Wednesday night. Company consultants began Monday night trying to allay several concerns in the community.

Supporters said wind farms bring jobs, addition taxes to the county, and new money for landowners.
But detractors maintained their suspicions of the company, paid consultants, neighbors who had signed leases, and county officials.

In closing statements Wednesday night, the company offered to limit the number of new turbines to 79, extend setbacks to 16 hundred feet from the nearest home, and maintain a 3-mile clearance zone around the Milford airport.
The board denied the application three to one. Kirby Berhowe voted yes. Cami Wills, Alex Opinsky, and Chairman Jeff Ashland voted no. Member Jennifer Johnson-Ross did not vote, citing a conflict of interest.
