Spirit Lake, IA (KICD)– The Dickinson County Board of Supervisors heard an update from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources this week on the situation involving Eurasian Water Milfoil in the local chain of lakes.

DNR Fisheries Biologist Mike Hawkins told the board the initial treatment last Fall covered a large area of the lakes in hopes of eradicating the invasive plant from the area.

Hawkins says the next steps will involve continuing to look more testing sites on the Iowa Great Lakes with a major focus being on West Okoboji and Spirit Lakes since the plant has not been found in those bodies up to this point meaning no treatment has been done either.
