Spirit Lake, IA (KICD)– There were some heated moments Tuesday morning when concerns over wind energy projects resurfaced before the Dickinson County Board of Supervisors.

The conversation began with rural Dickinson County resident Kris VanKleek renewing her request that a wind energy moratorium be put in place to keep future projects from coming to the county before the current ordinance that would govern over them can be updated.

The talks then began taking a turn when another resident suggested there may be a conflict of interest with Supervisor Tim Fairchild having a series of wind leases. Fairchild rebuked the accusation saying he looked into this potential conflict prior to taking any action in his elected capacity.

Tuesday’s conversation comes after the Dickinson County Board of Adjustments turned down a permit from Red Rock Energy to build a series of wind turbines in the county following three consecutive nights of public hearings on the matter.
