Estherville, IA (KICD)– Two people have been charged with drug offenses following separate traffic stops in Emmet County.

Sheriff Mike Martens tells KICD News the first arrest came on January 28th when a complaint was received regarding a possible impaired driver swerving into oncoming traffic on Highway 9 near Superior.

The vehicle was later located driving on a flat tire north of Estherville and led to 42-year-old Thomas Contreras being taken into custody for OWI, reckless driving, operating a vehicle without a license, no proof of insurance and child endangerment for having a a 7-year-old in the vehicle at the time of the incident.

Contreras was later additional charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia following a search of his vehicle.

Then on February 5th 32-year-old Eric Burt of Bancroft was arrested on Highway 9 near Armstrong for allegedly driving with a suspended license and expired registration. A subsequent search of that vehicle later led to additional charges of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalaia and failure to affix a drug tax stamp.
