Estherville, IA (KICD) — The Emmet County Board of Supervisors got sticker shock last summer when they got bids for an expansion to the East side of the courthouse.
Supervisor Chair Todd Glassnap says the architect’s estimate was for 1.2 million dollars, but the sole bid – from Christensen Construction – was 1.9 million.

So the project was scaled down and readvertised. This time only The Steffes Companies responded, and the price tag was in the same ballpark.

The Supervisors will take official action next Tuesday morning at 10. Architect Adam Van Gorp says if they substantially alter the project they can take new bids right away. If they bid the same project they’ll have to wait 45 days.
The county would like the 1.2 million dollars in American Rescue Plan money to cover the entire project.
