Spencer, Ia (KICD) – The Spencer Tiger Girls and Boys Basketball teams went on the road Monday night to take on Estherville Lincoln Central in a make-up contest from January 8th.

In the Girls Contest, 3A’s 4th Ranked team, Estherville Lincoln Central bolted out of the gate, forcing 12 Spencer Turnovers and leading 21-2 after the first 8 minutes.

The Tigers were able to settle down offensively in the 2nd Quarter, but ELC still managed a 14-6 advantage in that time, leading at the half 35-8.

Spencer was able to force some Estherville Lincoln Central turnovers as the game went on, having a lot of success in the 1-3-1 defense, but ELC continued to grow their lead, up 58-19 after 3 quarters. A running clock shortened the game in the 4th Quarter and Estherville Lincoln Central cruised to their 12th win of the season 70-23.

Addison Hoben led Spencer with 8 points in the contest. Estherville Lincoln Central was led by Haylee Stokes 25 on the evening.

Spencer Falls to 0-13 on the year and 0-4 in Lakes Conference play. Estherville Lincoln Central improves to 12-2 and 3-0 in league play.

The Boys game had a similarly grim start for the Tigers, as Estherville Lincoln Central Jumped out to a 27-2 lead.

The defensive struggles continued for Spencer in the 2nd Quarter, as the teams went to the Locker room with ELC up 42-10.

The second half was a lot closer, but Estherville Lincoln Central still managed to add to their lead in the 3rd and 4th Quarters and rolled to a 69-34 win.

Spencer’s Cael Bruning led the Tigers with 10 points. Owen Larson turned in another Owen Larson type night, scoring 34 points for ELC.

Spencer has now dropped 4 in a row and have a record of 4-6 while dropping to 1-3 in Lakes Conference play.

Estherville Lincoln Central has bounced back nicely from their loss at the hands of Cherokee on January 5th by beating 2 conference opponents now to bring their league record up to 3-1 and 10-3 overall.

The two teams would meet again Tuesday night in Spencer.

The Spencer Girls struggled against the ELC press early.

Class 3A #4 Estherville Lincoln Central rolled to the 55-13 win, improve to 14-2 on the year, and 5-0 in the Lakes Conference. Spencer is now 0-14 on the year and 0-5 in the League.

Hopkins, Hoben, and Greattinger all scored 4 points to lead the Tigers while Estherville Lincoln Central was led by Haylee Stokes 21 with Rylee Yager adding 15.

Turnovers set the Tiger Boys back early.

Spencer’s 44-14 deficit was way too much to overcome despite outscoring ELC by 9 in the second half. Estherville Lincoln Central is now 11-3 on the year and 4-1 in the Lakes Conference while Spencer has dropped to 4-7 and 1-4 in the league.

Dylan Timmer led Spencer with 13 points while Owen Larson scored 37 to lead Estherville Lincoln Central. Both Cael Miller and Jordan Jensen were also in double-figures for ELC.

Up next for Estherville Lincoln Central is Cherokee at home on Friday. Spencer will hit the road to play Spirit Lake on Thursday.
