Spencer, IA (KICD)– The major upgrade for the traffic signals in Downtown Spencer is underway and motorists can expect some light outages in the coming days.

Work began Wednesday morning at the intersection of First Street and Grand Avenue as crews replace the aging system that is becoming difficult to repair because of a lack of available parts.

Once finished at the first site, which is expected to take anywhere from four to six hours, crews will begin moving north taking one light system offline at a time.

This is just the most recent step in the system upgrade that up to this point has included the addition of pedestrian push buttons at each intersection.
