Spirit Lake, IA (KICD) — After years of rumors, the CEO of Fareway has confirmed the construction of a new 21 thousand square foot store in Spirit Lake. The Iowa-based grocery chain has operated at its current location at 1906 Keokuk Avenue in Spirit Lake since 1985.

Reynolds W. Cramer announced that a new building will go up at the Highway 71 and 175th Street Intersection across from Okoboji Summer Theatre.

Spirit Lake City Administrator Gregg Owens says he and other city leaders are thankful the retailer is doing its expansion within city limits.

Owens tells KICD News the city’s involvement is very limited since that 4.9 acres is already zoned for commercial development.

Fareway says the new Spirit Lake location will be a modern facility with abundant natural lighting and a modern look. Entry to the parking lot will be on the South side of the property facing The Stables complex.
