Des Moines, IA (KICD)– The 28 days of February ended as a typical up and down kind of month for most of Iowa but also on the wet side.
Data collected at the KICD studios has the average temperature at 20.6 degrees which is exactly normal and State Climatologist Justin Glisan says that information appears to match up with data in other parts of the state.
On the moisture side rainfall and melted snow came in just under an inch and a half in Spencer, about two thirds of an inch above normal. Glisan says being wetter than normal was very common in Iowa last month with 2023 likely entering the record books.
Looking ahead, Glisan says outlooks indicate much of the upcoming month will have the potential to be cooler and wetter than normal but it is also worth mentioning that March, like February, is a transition month that can feature short periods of time that are both warm and cool as well as wet and dry.
