Sanborn, IA (KICD) — The Sanborn Fire Department was called to a rural intersection south of town Thursday morning after an auger on a feed truck came in contact with a power line and caught fire.

Chief Randy Lyman says luckily the driver of the truck – owned by Hartog Elevator Company – was able to get out of the vehicle without being electrocuted; and the vehicle was no longer in contact with the line when the fire crew arrived, so it was easier to extinguish.

The operator forgot to retract the auger after making a delivery and struck the overhead power lines at the intersection of 340th Street and Redwood Avenue about 9:30am.

The Sanborn fire department was at the scene for about an hour and a half. The truck was pretty much a total loss.
